Being There was a three-year EPSRC funded project, which brought together creative practitioners, technologists, and academics to explore how robotics can enable people to participate in public space, as a place to meet and share ideas. Through a series of labs, micro-residencies, a showcase, and commissions, the collaboration set out to explore how robotics might impact upon our experience of public space. The Being There project brought together researchers from the Universities of Exeter, Bath, Cambridge (formerly at Queen Mary University of London) and Oxford, the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, and Watershed in Bristol. Watershed is a three-screen cinema in Bristol UK showing independently produced films from Britain and beyond. We are also a center for art and creative technology: home to the Pervasive Media Studio, where artists, technologists, and academics work on projects and products at the cutting edge of art, science, and digital.
