TOA MATA BAND, Lego Robot Electronic Orchestra
Toa Mata Band is known as the first LEGO® music robots orchestra, made of vintage Bionicle figures.
Each band member is built using LEGO Bionicle pieces, a system of electric motors, rubber bands and pulleys connected to the figures arms which allow them to play a rig of different touchable synthesizers, drum machines, smartphones and acoustic percussions.
The project started in 2013 by the Italian sound designer and music producer Giuseppe Acito who began by publishing a video series, about the evolution of the music robots on YouTube.
The “Episode#1″ was quite a home made experiment which soon went viral on the web, and it was followed by 6 more episodes. The videoclips shown live-in-studio jams and also features 3 tributes to the iconic electro bands Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and Daft Punk, by covering some of their classic tunes such as “Everythings counts”, “The robots”, “Da Funk”.
The performance consists of 50 minutes of massive live-robotics playing organic electronic music and A/V contents, live cameras on screen and video-graphics.
The sound is a blend of electro, big beat and glitchy down tempo, mainly inspired by the classics of electronic music ranging from 80’s to nowdays.
